Katara Cultural Village: 7 Must-See spots

Katara Cultural Village is Qatar's beloved cultural hub. Here you will find a plethora of local galleries, museums and public art installations. But what really makes the area stand out is its unique Arabic architecture. Do not miss the chance to be transported inside one of "One Thousand and One" fairy tales.

The name "Katara" the area received in memory of the first mention of Qatar on an old Portuguese map. In 16th century AD, Portuguese travelers called the area "Katara". And truly, Katara Cultural Village is its own little world inside the country.

1 - The Katara Mosque

The Katara Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque - one of the most beautiful Mosques in the country. The design was inspired by Persian and Turkish tile and enamel work. Some of the architectural inspirations behind this building are the famous Blue Mosque in Istanbul and Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul.
2 - Public Art Installations

Being a famous cultural and art hub, Katara has a variety of public art installations to offer. Some of the most interesting ones include:

The Gandi's Three Monkeys - three sculptures of men in military uniform embodying Gandhi's famous visual metaphor - the three wise monkeys that "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".

The Force of Nature - a sculpture of a woman holding the Earth Globe by a piece of cloth. This incredible art work was created by world famous artist Lorenzo Quinn representing our helplessness in the face of the nature's might.
3 - The Katara Amphitheatre

A Greek-inspired stone amphitheater stands as a unique bland of antique and traditional Arabic architecture. The Amphitheater is not simply an architectural marvel, it is a bustling center of local and international events and festivities. Up to 5000 guests can comfortably be hosted during such events.
4 - Al Thuraya Planetarium

A one-of-a-kind spot for astronomy enthusiasts will take you on a captivating journey around our Universe. Here you will learn more about stars and planets as well as the role of astronomy in Qatar's history and traditions.
5 - The Golden Mosque

Prepare to be owe-struck in front of this architectural marvel. As the name suggests, the Golden Mosque is fully adorned with golden tiles which make it glow in the sun like a real gem.
6 - 21 high street

21 High Street is the ultimate shopping destination in Qatar. Here, you can experience the feeling of strolling along Champs-Élysées in Paris or Via del Corso in Rome. This street offers everything you need for a luxurious shopping experience. What makes it extra special? Even during Qatar's scorching summer months, you can enjoy an outdoor experience here, thanks to the street's air conditioning. Take a moment to relish the cool air rising from the ground.
